Opinion polls show two-thirds of voters in this area around the French border will cast ballots for parties, both rightist and leftist, that are looking Catalan independence from the country.

Catalan Leader Artur Mas will probably win re-election since his conservative Convergence and Union party is forecast to consider a big part, some 62 to 64 seats, within the 135-chair regional set up, or Parliament.

Mas, who adopted the independence cause in September following a massive street demonstration, campaigned on the promise to carry a referendum on secession.
